XIX National and XIV International Congress of Nursing History: Deconstructing the Gender of Care

The XIX National and XIV International Congress of Nursing History, under the compelling theme “Deconstructing the gender of care, taking a stand from the history of nursing,” invites professionals, academics, and students to an essential event dedicated to exploring the historical role of nursing and its significant contributions to building a more equitable and conscious society.

This congress offers a unique platform for discussion and knowledge sharing, aiming to strengthen the professional identity of nurses through a critical and engaged perspective. The event will take place from May 20 to 22, 2026, at the Health Sciences Building of the University of Valladolid, Spain. Call for Papers: Communication Guidelines

The Scientific Committee has established the following guidelines for submitting papers to the congress.

Theme and General Requirements: Communications must relate to the congress theme: “DECONSTRUCTING THE GENDER OF CARE TAKING A STAND FROM THE HISTORY OF NURSING.”

  • Works must be original and unpublished, not previously presented or published elsewhere. Any prior publication must be notified at the time of submission. All current ethical and legal regulations must be respected.
  • Communication proposals should be written in Spanish and submitted in one of two accepted modalities: oral communication or poster. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to change the proposed modality, with prior notification to the authors.
  • Original studies such as historiography, oral history, narrative reviews, systematic reviews, and phenomenology are accepted.

Submission Deadline:

  • From August 3, 2025, to February 3, 2026.

Maximum Length:

  • 300 words, excluding bibliography.

Submission Method:

  • Exclusively online, via the congress website’s submission form.
  • No graphics, tables, or images are permitted in the abstract.

Abstract Structure:

  • Title (all caps, maximum 15 words).
  • Authorship (workplace and email of corresponding author).
  • Introduction and objective.
  • Methodology.
  • Results.
  • Conclusions.
  • Bibliography (APA 7th edition style) and documentary sources.

Authorship Details:

  • Full name of the principal author.
  • Workplace.
  • Email address.
  • Full name and workplace of co-authors (maximum five).
  • Declaration of potential conflicts of interest.

Authorship Rules:

  • Each principal author may submit a maximum of two communication proposals but can be listed as a co-author on other proposals.
  • Each proposal may have a maximum of five authors and must be accompanied by a declaration of potential conflicts of interest.
  • Presentation of the work is contingent upon the principal author’s registration for the Congress.

Presentation Format and Time:

  • Presentations will be in PowerPoint format, using the official congress template.
  • The duration will be determined by the session moderator.
  • Following the presentation, a brief discussion period will be open, requiring the authors’ presence. Only presented works will be accredited.

Awards and Publications

Awards for Best Communications: The “Prof. Dr. Francisca J. Hernández Martín” Research Award will be given to the best research paper submitted for this year’s call. Winners will be selected by the Scientific Committee during the Congress. The decision is final, and awards may be declared vacant if works do not meet minimum quality requirements.

Congress Abstract Book: A monograph will be published by Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid, featuring extended abstracts of selected lectures, thematic tables, and communications. The extended abstract should not exceed 1,700 words and must be submitted before March 27, 2026.

Final Considerations: Participation in the Congress implies acceptance of these regulations. Non-compliance with any of the guidelines may result in the rejection of the communication.
