The Società Italiana per lo studio della storia contemporanea seek original contributions that, through the lens of the politics of comparison, focus on

four latecomer empires, namely Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Japan – the case of the United States

which also falls within this chronology is not part of our project – that started their colonial

expansion at the end of the nineteenth century.
