Dear members,
On this International Nurses’ Day, the board of the European Association for the History of Nursing extend our deepest gratitude to nurses across the continent. As we reflect on this years’ theme ‘Caring for nurses, strengthening healthcare’ we do so with pride in nursing’s legacy, but also with growing concern for the challenges facing the profession today.
Our Association is dedicated to preserving, promoting and advancing the rich history of nursing across Europe and beyond. History shows us that nurses have been at society’s forefront in times of crisis. Today this tradition continues, as nurses take up their role as caregivers and leaders in the face of armed conflict, humanitarian crises and the growing impacts of climate change.

As historians, we understand the importance of recording and sharing these stories: not only to honor the commitment of nurses today, but also to ensure that future generations recognize the importance of a strong nursing profession. Caring for nurses is essential for the health and well-being of our world.
On behalf of the board of the European Association for the History of Nursing, I extend our warmest wishes to you all on this International Nurses’ Day. Together, let us work toward a safer, healthier, and more peaceful future.
